Role
and Form of Government

            The
function and role of government in the Bible is to provide justice and
protection; the system of the Bible is socialism, democracy, communism, or theocracy. Providing
justice and protection to people is very important in government. It shows that
someone cares for them and that when danger comes there will be someone to
protect them and provide justice for their loss if any. The system of the Bible
is socialism,
democracy, communism, or theocracy because it depends on how you look at the
Bible. There is God, the most-high ruler, but there are also people put in
place by Him to rule over certain places. Also, not everybody has a say in
things, there are people who have higher authority than others.

            In
Russia, the ruler is Vladimir Putin,
in the U.S. the ruler is Donald Trump, in North Korea the ruler is Kim Jong-un. In the Bible, however, it does say that
over everybody God is the highest ruler. Since God is not able to come down
from Heaven and control everyone, He has different people rule over different
places for Him. Romans 13:1-2 says, “Let every person be subject to the
governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those
that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, whoever resists the
authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur
judgment.” (The Origin) This talks about how God
is the official ruler of everything, however, He has given others the
opportunity to rule over certain places for Him.

            Though
God can protect any way He wants, He has also given people other ways to give
or receive protection. Ezra 9:9 says, “For
we are slaves. Yet our God has not forsaken us in our slavery, but has extended
to us his steadfast love before the kings of Persia, to grant us some reviving
to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us protection in Judea and
Jerusalem.” (BibleGateway) Here it shows that people are able to get protection
and shelter in Persia, Judea, and Jerusalem. God has shown His love through
people on Earth, even if those people do not see or know it. It does not matter
who or what people are, there will always be a place for you to stay, live, and
be protected.

            In
the Bible, there are some places where theocracy is thought to be the system of
government. “Judges 21:25 In those days there
was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own
eyes.”
(Types) The time period of this verse is the time when
people did what they thought was right for them. This is because God was the
only king and ruler in their minds, and nobody else could tell them what to do.

There are also some places where it supports communism. John 13:34 says, “A new command I give
you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
(Types) This verse
shows God telling people to love and care for each other like He does for
everyone. It is kind of like the phrase turn the other cheek, even if someone
is rude or mean to you show love to them no matter what. Democracy is supported
in Gen 11:4. “And they said,
“Come, let us build
ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest
we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” (Types) The people are the ones who
said these things, God never told these people to say these things. Therefore,
democracy was set in place because there was no one ruler, everybody had a say
in this.

            In the
Bible, there is a basic function and role of the government; and that is to
protect the people and give them justice. In this sense, as long as there is
someone or a group of people to give others life, liberty, and property then
there is government and it doesn’t have to matter if it is a good government. There
are multiple systems of government that are supported. There is no “one
government” said to be. However, in God’s eyes, the government would be a democracy.

This is because God sees everyone equal, therefore, nobody has more power than
someone else, nobody is better than somebody else. The only one who has the
most power is God.
