I want to be the type of teacher that inspires all students to succeed in all areas and believe in themselves.
When students exit my classroom they should not only have a basic grasp of the subject content, but they should also have extensive knowledge on how the material that was learned in my class can be applied to their own lives. Instead of lecturing on a particular topic everyday, I want students to explore and experiment often so they can form their own ideas while connecting the new knowledge to previous knowledge. As my educational philosophy evolves, I learn more and more about what type of teacher I want to become. My ultimate goal as a teacher is a very basic objective and that is to teach students how to broaden their horizons by becoming lifelong learners and connecting their experiences in the classroom to the outside real world. Technology is an instrument that can be used to help me achieve that ultimate goal in my future classroom because it is such a broad and worldwide tool.I want my classroom to be a wonderful place for learning, particularly student centered learning. Students should play a part in the learning process instead of the teacher just lecturing in front of the classroom and the students taking notes from the chalkboard.
One way in which I would incorporate this type of learning is by assigning projects where students work in small groups to solve problems. Doing this, students will be able to learn from each other. The small groups will also allow slower students to advance more quickly and catch up with the material, while other students will have a fun time learning and reinforcing what they have already learned. In my classroom technology will hopefully be present in the form of computers and projectors. These items will be used for projects, tutorials, and for educational math games. There are several teaching methods that I plan to use in my future classroom. One method is problem-centered learning. My opinion is that students learn best when they are trying to reach some type of goal in an assignment such as in a Web Quest or even a PowerPoint game.
While trying to solve the problem, students learn by gradually discovering new ideas and facts. Problem centered learning is a more efficient. Problem centered learning often requires student centered learning and collaborative learning, which are two other methods that I plan to use. Working in groups is a way for teachers to break the monotony of students listening to the teacher lecture for the entire period. With proper teacher supervision, collaborative learning allows students to learn and discover ideas together.Teaching is a very demanding profession, however, it is definitely one of the most rewarding careers that a person could have. Lesson plans, parent complains, lack of funding, and even lack of appreciation are extremely stressful elements that can sometimes make teaching difficult.
The rewards of teaching however outweigh the stressful aspects of the profession. Teaching allows me to learn more about myself while inspiring others to learn. It also allows me to use creativity and experiment with new and exciting ideas. What will keep me going as a teacher is the feeling that I am making a difference in a child’s life. When a student comes up to me and tells me about how I helped them understand an idea, it makes all of the hard work worth it.
