Fareed Zakaria: It is nice to meet you too sir and we are pleasure to have you here. So let us start with this show.

Miroslav Laj?ák: Yes, please.

Fareed Zakaria: In spite of there being wars between India
and Pakistan, there are few people who still would like to be together and on
the other side there are few who do not wish to even talk about them. What is
your say about this, sir?

Miroslav Laj?ák: It is good that there are people who would
still want to be together even after the partition. As far as those who are not
willing to keep any connection are concerned, it could be due to the wars that
took place between the countries or maybe even that there must be a member in
their family who was an army officer and was killed during the war.

Fareed Zakaria: And what do you think about the poem
written by the girl living in India to the girl in Pakistan which was published
in the Coimbatore times.

Miroslav Laj?ák: Well I did not hear of it until it got
viral. It was all over the media. If I am not wrong it came on the news as
well. The poem is written by a girl named Shivani Gupta who is a Delhi-based
poet, psychologist, researcher and a performance artist. In her poem, she asks
the girl staying in Pakistan about her favorite
movies and songs.

Fareed Zakaria: Yes sir. It seems like they are having a
conversation as if anybody living like neighbors
would do. The poem has been written as if Shivani and the girl from Pakistan
were long lost friends.

Miroslav Laj?ák: That is true. This poem is basically a
conversation which Shivani is trying to make with the girl from Pakistan.

Fareed Zakaria: What do you think if both the countries,
India and Pakistan were united and worked together?

Miroslav Laj?ák: It would be great and it is only possible
if the countries accept to be united.

Fareed Zakaria: What do you think is the reason behind them
not uniting?

Miroslav Laj?ák: The main reason could be the loses that
the countries had to face in the form of their family member’s lives as well as
the property.

Fareed Zakaria: Okay. As a member of the media team, I have
seen that the reporters only have the news regarding what Pakistan does to
India and not what India does to Pakistan. By does, I mean to say harm or
generate wars between the countries. Is it that India does not harm Pakistan at
all or is it that they start the war or rivalry at all?

Miroslav Laj?ák: I do not think that is possible. As
Pakistan is not silent and so is not India. The motive behind media not putting
forth the news about India harming Pakistan
is to not let the world know the truth…

Fareed Zakaria: What about the Kashmir dispute that has
been going on for so long between the two countries?

Miroslav Laj?ák: Well, when the partition was happening in
1947 and when it was announced by Mountbatten
at a press conference it was decided that India will have Pakistan. During this
time, it was also decided that the Muslims living in the country would shift to
Pakistan and all other religions would stay in India.1

Fareed Zakaria: Then why is this dispute still on? Why are
the countries not coming to a conclusion?

Miroslav Laj?ák: Actually the problem is that very few
people living in Kashmir would like to shift to Pakistan, not everybody.

Fareed Zakaria: I also heard that because of the new prime
minister that is Narendra Modi, the citizens of Kashmir are not very happy with
the work, the prime minister has been doing for the betterment of Kashmir. Do
you think that the prime minister is biased with the state of Gujarat and does
not work at all for the other states?

Miroslav Laj?ák: Well, is not it obvious what he is doing.
I mean even if I were the prime minister or say if I was in the place of the Prime
Minister, Narendra Modi, I would do the same. For example, if I was born and
settled in Gujarat and have seen how my state is, I would want the state to get
better. As he has been the chief minister of Gujarat, he improvised on its infrastructure
as well as on the other buildings and roads.

Fareed Zakaria: If he can work on Gujarat then why not the
other states of India? Why be partial to
Gujarat only? Why not content the other states especially Kashmir as it has
been suffering the most?

Miroslav Laj?ák: I prefer the answer to this coming from
Narendra Modi itself as his opinions and plans must be completely different.
And I am sure that he has already planned for
the betterment of other states as well.

Fareed Zakaria: Thank you so much, sir, for your patience
and for answering all the questions. We hope to meet you very soon.

Miroslav Laj?ák: Thank you again for inviting me on this
show, it was a pleasure to be here.
