E-commerce is generally known asElectronic marketing.
E-commerce is fast gaining ground as an accepted and usedbusiness example. It is a processof buying or selling products online. E-commerce draws on automation technologiesas mobile, electronic funds transfer, supply chain management, internetmarketing, online transaction processing, electronic data interchange (EDI),inventory management systems and automated data collection systems. Online shopping is the techniqueby which customers directly purchase goods or services from seller in actual-time,without an intermediary service, over the internet. It is a form of e-commerce.This project is an attempt to provide the advantages of online shopping tocustomers of a real shop. E-commerce helps buying the products in the shopanywhere through internet by using an android device.
Thus the customer willget the products of online shopping and home delivery from his favorite shop. Modern e-commerce normally uses websitefor at least one part of the transaction’s life cycle although it may also useother technologies such as e-mail. Typical e-commerce transactions include thepurchase online products (Amazon) and music purchases (iTune Store), and to aless extent, customized/personalized online stock store inventory services.
There are three types of e-commerce: online retail, electric markets, andonline auctions. E-commerce is supported by electronic business. The objective of this project is todevelop a general view of e-commerce store where all frozen food of all brandsare available. Customer can be buy from the comfort of home through theinternet. An online store is a virtual store onthe Internet where customers can browse the catalog and select products ofinterest.
If the item is in stock the selected items are placed in a shoppingcart. At checkout time, the items in the shopping cart will be presented as anorder. At that time, bill-to and ship-to address will be needed to complete thetransaction. Usually, the customer will be asked to fill in or select a billingaddress, a shipping address, a shipping time, and payment method and paymentinformation such as credit card number.
An e-mail notification is sent to thecustomer as soon as the order is placed. There are 6basic types of e-commerce:? Business-to-Business (B2B)? Business-to-Consumer (B2C)? Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C)? Consumer-to-Business (C2B).? Business-to-Administration (B2A)? Consumer-to-Administration (C2A) Business-to-Business (B2B): B2B E-commerce is simply described as e-commerce betweencompanies. About 80% of e-commerce is of this type. Examples – Intel sellingmicroprocessor to Dell.
Business-to-Consumer (B2C): Business-to-consumer e-commerce, or commerce betweencompanies and consumers, involves customers gathering information, purchasingphysical goods or receiving products over an electronic network. Examples – Dell selling a laptop tocustomer. Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C): Consumer-to-consumer e-commerceor C2C is simply commerce between private individuals or customers. Examples – ebay.com Consumer-to-Business (C2B): Consumer to Business transactions occur when a company placesa job online and businesses bid on the project.
Examples – Food companies may askfood bloggers to include a new product in a recipe, and review it for readersof their blogs. Business-to-Administration (B2G): Business to Administration of e-commerce encompasses alltransactions conducted online between companies and public administration. Examples – Fiscal, social security,employment, legal documents and registers. Consumer-to- Administration (C2G): In consumer to administration e-commerce, the ‘consumer’ isalso selling their goods or services to the administrative sector.
Examples – Teachers offering distancelearning services, Tax return filing service.By the increasing need of e-commerceindustry, every businessman is looking for an online store where they can selltheir products. One can get a lot ofbenefits by opting for e-commerce as it delivers a comprehensive range ofbenefits to retailers and wholesaler. Advantages of E-commerce: § Rapid buying/selling policy, as well aseasy to find products.§ Buying/selling 24/7.
§ Reach to customers, there is notheoretical geographic limitations.§ Low functional costs and better qualityof services. § No need to physical company set-up. § Easy to start and manage a business.§ Customers can easily choose products fromdifferent providers without moving around physically.
Disadvantages of E-commerce: § Any one, good or bad, can simply beginningbusiness and there are many bad websites which eat up customer’s money. § There is no certainty of productsquality.§ Mechanical failures can reasonunpredictable effects on the total processes.§ There is no chance of direct communicationcustomer to company so customer’s faithfulness is always on acheck.
§ There are many hackers who seek for chance,and thus an e-commerce site, service, payment gateways all are always prone toattack. Process of E-commerce: § Sitting at computer, customer wants to order products online.§ Web browser links back-and-forth overthe internet with a web server that handle the store’s website.§ The web server forwards customer’s order to the order manager.
§ The order manager inquiries to find out whether what the customer wants is availablein stock.§ If the items are not in stock, the stock system can order new suppliesfrom the wholesalers or manufacturers.§ The stock manager confirms whetherthe items are in stock or suggests an estimated delivery date when suppliesproducts will be received.§ If the items are in stock, the ordermanager continues to process it. § It communicates with a merchant system to take payment usingthe customer’s credit or debit card number.§ The merchant might make extra checkswith the customer’s own bank computer.§ The bank computer checks whether the customer has enough funds.
§ The merchant authorizes thetransaction to go ahead, though funds will not be completely transferred untilseveral days later.§ The order manager confirms that thetransaction has been successfully processed and notifies the web server.§ The web server shows the customer a webpage confirming that his/her order has been processed and the transaction iscomplete.§ The order manager sends a request tothe warehouse to rapidity the products to the customer.§ Trucks from warehouse collect productsand deliver.
§ Once the products have beendispatched, the warehouse computer e-mails the customer to confirm that his/hergoods are on way. § The goods are delivered to thecustomer. Overviewof Online Shopping Project This system involves its own databaseto be maintained. As the information or details about the products are storedin the database (like mysql) for the server side functionalities.The Server process is for dealingwith the customers detail and the items that are shipped to different locationsbased on the addresses provided by the customers. The application design contains twomodules one is for the customers who wish to buy the articles. And another isfor the store owners who maintains and updates the information regarding to thearticles and about the customers. The end user to use this product arethe common people for whom the application is to be hosted on the web and theadmin maintains the database.
The application that is deployed onthe customer’s database like RDBMS, the information regarding the items arehighlighted and forwarded from the database for the customer (front view) basedon the choice through the menu list and based on all these searches andtransactions the database of all the products are updated at the end of eachtransaction. The entries for products, into theapplication can be made through various screens designed for various levels ofusers. As soon as, the authorized personnel feeds the relevant data into thesystem, several reports are generated based on the security policy used. Future Scope of Online Shopping Project § The online shoppingsystem provides the 24×7 service, so that customers can visit the website andplace orders anytime they wish to.§ The delivery systemworks for 24×7 hours a week.
§ Some of the featuresthat can be modified and added to the system in future involve itsimplementation by local shopkeepers, where shops will be providing an onlineinterface to customers for shopping and placing orders. § Some delivery personscan perform their work. This will very benefit for the customers as it willsave their time, plus it’s add on for the shopkeepers also, as people willcontinue to shop from local shops rather than preferring to super markets everytime.
§ Also since thedeliveries from these local vendors will not be as time consuming as these daysflipkart, amazon etc. take, but rather will be delivered the same day of orderplaced. § Else the shopkeepercan ask the customer that the product will be available by next day, so ifhe/she still wants to place the order, it can be done. Again return or exchangewill be easy since the delivery boy can even do it as the store is nearby. § Including a chat boxfor public benefit is also a great idea via which people can directly have aconversation with some officials regarding any type of queries.
