Brooklyn James Mrs.BallWorld History26 January 2018The Revolutionary War The American and French Revolutionary Wars impacted our society in many ways.
They both have similarities and differences. In this paper comparisons and differences will be explained. Some famous documents that will be compared and differed is the American Constitution, Bill of Rights, and The Declaration of the Rights of Man. The American Revolution started because of the tension with the british government and the American colonies. The Americans were under the rules of Britain. The Americans were furious by how they were being treated and controlled by the British. The English were putting high taxes on the Americans and they got mad because they had no say in the matter.
Then they had no representation of saying whatever they wanted and they couldn’t speak their mind because they weren’t allowed, however they could start a rebellion to speak to the British and make their voices be heard. Then the Stamp Act was passed on March 22, 1765. The Stamp Act was a time when the british crown raised taxes and made the price of living go up. Which was a burden on the Americans. In March 1774 60 men had boarded a ship and dumped tea into the Boston Harbor, then the Americans started to boycott the goods throughout the thirteen colonies, which helped in the long run. After all the fighting and arguing between the Americans and the British, the Americans had figured out how to make things equal.
On July 4, 1776 the Second Continental Congress had established the Declaration of Independence. Then in 1783 the British had allowed the thirteen colonies to have Independence. The French Revolution was caused because the people wanted to eliminate the French monarchy.
The people were unequal in the three estates. The three estates were clergy, nobility, and population. The clergy is the first estate it had enormous power, had 10% of the land, and .05% of the population.
They also didn’t have to pay off taxes which wasn’t right. Then nobility the second estate was wealthy, was into the government, part of the military, had 1.5% of the population. They had it made just like the first estate they didn’t have to pay taxes. Unlike the other the third estate population everyone had to pay taxes, that was unfair to them because the other estates had it made. However the French government was in a financial debt with the Americans because of the Seven Year War they had borrowed money.
They had to pay it off sometime, but King Louis XIV, charged a soaring tax, and the people wouldn’t pay the taxes. Louis had a plan which was the Estates General which was supposed to fix the financial crisis. The Estates-General was a general gathering to present the French population. Even though the third estate had the majority of the population, the other two estates, plus the king had the greatest advantage of votes. In May 1789, the third estate arranged their own legislative body called the National Assembly.
All of the estates were invited to join the assembly, not involving the king because they were afraid that he will band it or get rid of it. Chaos is still within the streets. The people rose up and fought for what was right even if they died they still fought. After that on July 14 the people were raided the Bastille fortress for gunpowder.
Then in 1792 King Louis and his wife Marie-Antoinette were sentenced to be guillotined in 1793 for treason. The American and French Revolution compared in many ways,
