There has
been a substantial development in regards to children and young adult’s rights
over the coming years. In this essay, I will be talking more in depth about the
factors on rights and participation significantly focusing on development on
this concept. Furthermore, as the essay progresses, I will be discussing the
outlines of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children (UNRC).
UNRC is a legal agreement setting out the potential, civil economic, cultural
rights of every child, regardless of their race, religion and abilities. (Save
the children, 2018). It sets the basic standards for the local government to
provide for and to protect the children in terms of basic needs like health,
nutrition and other aspects. The government has obligations, which are
important to provide for the children as stated by the UNRC. (, 2018) To support my essay, it is important to relate
it to a source of media; showing it is a reliable source gives the reader to
consider issue of children’s rights. Media source which I have selected and
will be focusing on throughout this essay. I have chosen ‘Ugly Duckling.’ This well-known
fairytale will be used to study the rights of susceptible children with
disabilities and how they are treated throughout. Assessing how certain aspects
of this fairytale and how it relates to the rights of children. Further to the
above, I will be relating this aspect into two main themes. Some of which
include, the notion of power and voice in society. The word ‘rights’ is defined
as “A moral or legal entitlement to have or do something.” (, 2018) Regards to children making aware that the
children are being treated with dignity and they are receiving the rights they
are permitted to. Form of power, which an individual can use to demand justice
is a better explanation of rights within all backgrounds.
